HiFlo CarbonTec Pole Revolutionizes
High Access Window Cleaning.

Unger Enterprises, Inc. recently introduced its HiFlo CarbonTec Water-fed Pole system. An advanced approach founded on the technology of Unger's High Access modular cleaning systems, the HiFlo CarbonTec revolutionizes pure water, high-level window cleaning with its Patent Pending "any position" WaterFeed Assembly. This unique feature includes an on/off flow control connector to make cleaning high areas from the ground a safe, practical alternative.

The new HiFlo CarbonTec is a light weight modular system made with precision engineered components including aircraft-grade aluminum and light-weight carbon tubes available in two lengths allowing users to customize the length up to 50 feet. The HiFlo CarbonTec's fast-assembly connectors and internal water feed enable window cleaners to move freely at ground level while cleaning much larger areas of space.

Falling for Window Cleaning Safety

Tips for fall prevention and ergonomic awareness

By its nature, window cleaning is a dangerous profession. Not only do professionals typically work in extreme hot or cold weather conditions, heights are also a major issue. In fact, falling from a height is the most common industry hazard and the most dangerous piece of equipment is a ladder, according to Stefan Bright, Safety Director, International Window Cleaners Association (IWCA).

"The risk of falls effects window cleaners whether they are doing residential, commercial or high rise cleaning," Bright said. "The accidents typically do not result from a lack of safety education. Instead, it is a matter of complacency, or bad habits developed by professionals who have been in the business a long time."

But fortunately, the window cleaning industry has progressed to provide safer cleaning tools and conditions for professionals. Due to new safety standards as well as product innovations and advances in technique, industry professionals can now better trust the quality of window cleaning tools available and the safety they provide. Falls from heights are the cause of six to 12 fatalities per year, Bright says. This number represents almost a 50 percent decrease since 2001 when falls accounted for 16 to 22 deaths annually.
